A memorial is a perfect way to bring together friends and family to celebrate the life of a loved one. They differ from a funeral, with families having more freedom to choose the timing and also the venue. You may have wanted to wait until people can travel back from afar, or it could be to mark a significant anniversary. 

Regardless of the reason, a memorial is a beautiful tribute and can include as many readings, songs and symbolic acts as the family wishes - free from the constraints of a schedule in a crematorium or funeral home.
